Crying Out: A Poem

People talk about a relationship with God like it’s some easy thing. It’s hard to be real sometimes with how we experience God, and how we experience him. It' doesn’t make it true, but God’s big enough to handle our hard days as much as when we are in worship.

All I know is anguish and despair

God why have you abandoned me here?

Rejected by men and seemingly left to rot

Has my faith in you been all for nought?

Your word is full of promises of your love,

And yet I have no comfort from up above.

You speak of setting us free,

But you laugh at us when we ask to see.

Why, O God, do you feel so aloof?

I’ve cried out for hours from the top of the roof.

Whatever it is you claim your love to be,

Right now it its only a mystery to me.
